The Norfolk Chamber Consort will host Invencia Piano Duo and the Jasper String Quartet in a tour-de-force of piano quintets by Robert Schumann and Dmitri Shostakovich, at Old Dominion University’s Chandler Recital Hall.

Invencia Piano Duo, comprised of Andrey Kasparov and Oksana Lutsyshyn, will divide and conquer to compare and contrast the Piano Quintet in Eb Major (1842) of Schumann and the Piano Quintet in G mi nor (1940) of Shostakovich.

Accompanying Invencia will be members of the Jasper String Quartet. Winner of the prestigious CMA Cleveland Quartet Award, Philadelphia’s Jasper String Quartet is the Professional Quartet in Residence at Temple University’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians and the 2017-18 Guest Artist in Residence at Swarthmore College.

Named after Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, and first formed at Oberlin Conservatory, the Jaspers began a professional career in 2006 while studying with James Dunham, Norman Fischer and Kenneth Goldsmith as Rice University’s Graduate Quartet-in-Residence.

A catered reception follows the performance, with food provided by The Green Onion restaurant of Norfolk’s historic Ghent.

Tickets at the door $25.00, Students $10.00.
